Dwayne Johnson received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony on Wednesday, where the “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” star gathered with family and friends near the corner of Hollywood and Highland.
“I am completely honoured today,” the 45-year-old actor told ET Canada. “I was at times a little bit lost for words because I didn’t write anything down, but that’s okay. I held it together. I thought I was going to get a little emotional, but I didn’t.”
He continued, “[Today] reminded me just how fortunate I am to have my friends and my colleagues and my loved ones here. And not only that. Honestly, the bottom line is to be able to celebrate not only with your family and loved ones, but the fans. It’s because of them that all this is possible.”
“Not only does Dwayne have a great personality and talent, but he also does a great amount of philanthropic work which is part of the criteria for earning an immortal spot on the Walk of Fame,” producer of Walk of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez said in a statement.
Among his many philanthropic endeavours, the “Moana” actor created The Rock Foundation in 2006 with a goal to “educate and enrich the lives of children battling illness and disabilities, and to empower children through physical fitness programs and nutrition education initiatives.”
Johnson has transitioned from a career in football to become a WWE star and in-demand actor on Hollywood’s A-list. But he’s not just making an impact when the cameras are rolling. In August, Johnson was named the most popular actor on social media with a combined 167 million followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The “Ballers” star was named the world’s highest-paid actor in 2016, and the second-highest paid actor this year, earning $65 million, according to >Forbes. His movies have grossed nearly $3 billion at the box office.
It’s been a big week of celebrations for Johnson. On Tuesday, the actor announced he and girlfriend Lauren Hashian are expecting their second child with the couple debuting her baby bump at the “Jumanji” premiere. On Monday, his eldest daughter, Simone Johnson, made her debut as the first Golden Globes Ambassador at the Golden Globes nominations announcement ceremony.
What a morning for our ohana! Very proud of my first born @simonegjohnson carrying the torch for our industry’s #GoldenGlobes as the first ever #GoldenGlobesAmbassador. I’m also super impressed this 16yr old got up at 2am this morning to get ready — a full 2hrs before her maniac papa bear dad gets up to workout. 🤣👏🏾🤙🏾. #OurDNA #GoldenGlobesAmbassador #Nominations #75thGoldenGlobes
