LAHORE: Salar Nader, a student of famous Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain and Hollywood music composer, will perform at the Shakir Ali Museum today (Tuesday).
It was announced in a press conference jointly addressed by Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan of Shaam Churasi Gharana and Salar Nader at the museum on Monday. Nader was born in Germany to an Afghan refugee couple in 1981 and settled in the US.
Ustad Shafqat said Nader was a great exponent and player of tabla and he became student of Zakir Hussain when he was just eight. He said Nader had come to Pakistan on the invitation of the Faiz Foundation Trust.
To promote soft image of Pakistan and to provide a rare opportunity to instrumental music fanciers, the Pakistan National Council of the Arts had requested Nader to perform at its platform, Shafqat said and added that the guest artiste would perform solo tabla.
While addressing the conference, Nader said his forefathers belonged to Afghanistan and after the invasion by the Soviet Union, his family moved to Germany and later to the US. Nader said it was an honour for him to perform in Pakistan. He told the media that he was also a composer and he had composed music for many Hollywood movies such as Bread Winner, produced by Angelia Julie, and The Heat by Sandra Bullock. Nader said he had great association with Shaam Churasi gharana and Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan and it was a privilege for him to perform under the umbrella of Shaam Churasi Gharana and Pakistan National Council of Arts.
Exhibition: An exhibition of photographs featuring patients of haemophilia opened at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, on Monday.
The exhibition, titled Reality Clicks by Bilal Malik, was organised by Pakistan Haemophilia Patients Welfare Society. Around 100 photographs were displayed at the exhibition featuring haemophilia patients. It was an attempt to press that too many people suffering from the bleeding disorder lacked access to treatment and care.
The collection attempted to portray the challenges, treatment options, blood screening, community success stories and psycho-social aspects of haemophilia.
Dr Shehla Sohail, the society’s medical director for haemophilia treatment, told Dawn that she was a patient of haemophilia and always tried to create awareness on the issue.
Saeedul Hassan, vice president of the society and also a patient, said the exhibition had been organised to raise awareness about the disorder. The photographs on display had been taken from Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and other areas.
