CONCORD — The Northern Border Regional Commission is seeking applications for projects designed to strengthen economic and infrastructure development in the state’s four rural counties.

The commission, created by Congress in 2008 to offset challenging economies in the rural Northeast, seeks applications to fund projects across the 36-county region of northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. New Hampshire organizations in Carroll, Coos, Sullivan and within eligible communities in Grafton counties can apply. Applications are due June 2.

Grant proposals can be for projects including transportation, telecommunication and basic public infrastructure; workforce development; entrepreneurship, technology, or business development; resource conservation, tourism and recreation, or publicly owned renewable energy development. Projects for basic health care and other public services are also eligible.

Information sessions will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., March 29, at the CSB Community Center, Claremont; 1 to 3 p.m., April 7, at the Wolfeboro Town Hall and 1 to 3 p.m., April 10, at the North Country Resources Center, Lancaster.

The New Hampshire Division of Economic Development will coordinate applications for the state. When the rankings are complete, Gov. Chris Sununu will designate priority projects to the commission.

In 2016, the commission awarded 12 grants, totaling over $1.5 million, to the towns of Northumberland, Littleton, Ashland and the city of Berlin; the Grafton Regional Development Corp.: the New England Ski Museum; River Valley Community College; the University of New Hampshire; Solider On; Tri-County CAP; Friends of Wentworth Park; the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development and the Eastern Slope Airport, Fryeburg, Maine, part of a multi-state application.

For more information, contact Mollie Kaylor at the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development at 271-2341 or mollie.kaylor@dred.nh.gov. The application package is available at http://nbrc.gov/.
