Seal has followed up to his stinging attack on Oprah.
It was only the other day that Seal, real name Henry Samuel, shared a meme picturing Oprah with Harvey Weinstein on Instagram, causing a massive backlash.
In a Facebook post, the singer, 54, spoke for almost four minutes on the topic, explaining what his intent was by sharing it and defended his actions.
In the video, the Kiss From A Rose star backtracked, claiming he’d not meant to single out or personally attack Oprah. ‘First of all, let me apologise for the delayed response…’ he began.
‘Let me start by saying I have an enormous amount of respect for everything that Oprah has achieved and contributed in her life.’
‘What I reposted was not an attack on Oprah at all, she just happened to be the person photographed with the pig in the picture. No, what I reposted was commentary on the hypocritical and double standard nature and behaviour of Hollywood, so Fox News back off.’
He went on to address everyone involved in and who supports the #MeToo movement; claiming that the victims of rape, abuse, and harassment haven’t received ‘any real justice whatsoever’.
‘If you steal from the Post Office, you go to jail. And, hashtag Real Talk for a second, we all know what would happen to any one of those power abusers if they looked like me,’ he said.
He went on to address people branding him an ‘Uncle Tom’, and that the meme was in no way about him attacking the legendary TV host, nor was it about him attacking a ‘sister’, either.
‘I repost – not create – but repost a meme that appeared on my social feed, and now all of a sudden it’s a brother tearing down a sister issue.’
He then addressed Fox News: ‘Don’t try and use me as a pawn against Oprah, and in any of your political games.’
And personally warned actress Stacey Dash to ‘keep my name out of your mouth. Do not retweet, re-quote anything I have said in order to reinforce your self-hating agenda. You live in the sunken place. Again, this was not an attack against Oprah.’
In conclusion, he defended the meme as an ‘observation on the toxic nature of Hollywood’.
‘I believe a conscious people are a progressive people.’
Seal made it clear how he supported the victims of #MeToo and ended on how to move forward and that it ‘takes real courage’ for women who come forward.
